Funeral - 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers
Say farewell to your 60 minute men.
Say hello to your 45 minute has-been's.
In wake of the Steelers losing for a 6th time this season, 5 of them after having a lead in the final quarter, one thing has become abundantly clear; This defense sucks. Is it age? Is it poor conditioning? Something is wrong with this group. It's certainly does not fall on the shoulders of Dick LeBeau. It's not like he suddenly becomes a bad coach over night and forgets schemes. He didn't drop a game clinching interception. He didn't get burned for a 75 yard touchdown. He didn't fail to put any pressure on the quarterback on the final three Oakland drives. What ever it is, this defense is nothing without Troy Polamalu. Absolutely zero playmakers on the field yesterday for the Steelers defense. None.
Dear Coach Tomlin; Let us know when that "December Hell" you talked about is actually unleashed. All we saw yesterday was a bunch of hand clapping and butt slapping.
I wonder how Tomlin feels knowing he made a comment intended to fire up the squad and how the team is going to unleash hell in the month of December to seize up a playoff spot, and then they go out there and make him look foolish with an effort like that. The players sure didn't exhibit the "must win" attitude of a football team on the ropes. Looked more like the players were sleepwalking on the sidelines and between the hash-marks. No discipline. No sense of urgency. What is this? A ballet?
The offense is a strange phenomenon to figure out as well. Obviously almost all of the blame falls on a defense that gave up 3 touchdown drives in the 4th quarter to a team that had 10 offensive touchdowns all season, but the offense doesn't get a free pass with this game either.
After hibernating for much of the afternoon, the offense finally got clicking with roughly 10 minutes to go in the game. They did move at will after that, which begs the question; Why can't the offense score points when they're ahead? What's the major transformation that takes place for the offense when they're ahead and when they are behind in a game? The offense has racked up some really nice numbers this season, but it's failing to put teams away when it has had the chance and it's costing them games.
I'm certainly not pleased with the way the Steelers have played this season. However, we're already getting the feeling from Yinzer Nation that people are taking this a little too far. Keep in mind we've witnessed two Super Bowl victories in the last four years. People calling for Tomlin's job are simply being moronic. In two years, Tomlin took an 8-8 team and molded them into a playoff team one season and then a Super Bowl winning team the next. Fans regarded him as one of the best young coaches in the game. People agreed it was a tremendous hire by Dan Rooney. Suddenly he's 6-6 and has lost 4 straight. Fire Tomlin. Fire Arians. Fire LeBeau. Bench Ike Taylor. Bench Big Ben. Should have hired Whisenhunt. Yeah, because he's accomplished a lot. The only reason the Cardinals are any good is because they play in the worst division in football.
The expectations that Yinzer Nation has can only be described as completely unreasonable. Of course beating teams like Kansas City and Oakland (who has two nice wins against Cincinnati and Philadelphia this year) is not too much to ask. Expecting a team to never struggle and to win the Super Bowl every year is asinine. You'll hear some fans that UNBELIEVABLY are not happy with either Super Bowl win the last few years. "Oh, Ben played like shit in Super Bowl XL." "The defense caved in during the 4th quarter in Super Bowl XLIII." Hello?! The Steelers won the Championship. Who gives a shit? Sometimes I feel like some Steeler fans wouldn't be satisfied with anything. "Oh we won the title 31-0, but Reed missed a field goal." It's pathetic.
This is more of a reflection of the way the league is built. Alex made a great point last night. Look at the New Orleans Saints. Last place in their division a year ago. This year; undefeated. Same players too. No team can stay on top. It's the natural flow of the NFL. It's meant to be this way. Enjoy the fact your Steelers have accomplished more than several cities ever will.
As far as we're concerned, Steeler fans that take these ridiculous stances deserve all the flames that come their way.

What a great post. not.
What a fail by the steelers. Shows how the steeler defense, the so called steel curtain, is now a thing of the past. Steeler's ain't going to the playoffs this year. looks like you'll have to jerk off to the NFL highlights of super bowls past.
Found your blog through a raiders blog... you morons are a laughing stock
Great poll on the side too... maybe you should name Mendhall "sucks"
fags
"looks like you'll have to jerk off to the NFL highlights of super bowls past."
So we'll have to do what Raiders fans have been doing for, oh I don't know, 30 years now?
You're right though, the Steel Curtain is a thing of the past. They can't stop anyone, not even a 3-win Oakland team. It's truly pathetic.
Only thing that is pathetic here is pittsburgh sports. Raiders have just as rich history as the steelers. Least we aren't fair weather like you people. owned!!

That is how you quote people faggot. Learn that.
Now look at that paragraph. Excuses
your blog doesn't even let people quote?
hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahaha...is this 2006?
so wait you changed the poll question?
Are you that afraid? no one reads this blog anyway
Wow dude, the only thing owned here is you by the Internet. A lesson in quote trees? Da fuck? I mean I know it's hard for you to talk about the Raiders because they're so awful and so irrelevant, but you can come up with better digs than that. I mean, what else do you do when the playoffs start and you're at home on your computer every year?
Thanks for the hits and be well Mr. Davis.
Not really, the Raiders are fine. We can beat the Steelers no problem. We'll have another high draft pick this year, look out next year.
Da Fuck? Least Al Davis isn't a pussy like Dan Rooney. Rooney sucks more NFL dicks than Willie Parker
And when you say "hits," what do you mean?
My raidersblog gets more hits when I am asleep than you get in a month.
faggot
Heard this blog was getting popular in Pittsburgh. Just want to say the Browns are on their way to Heinz Field, son!
Cleveland week is always a big one for sure, especially with the way Brady Quinn played last week and the Steelers are in full-on shit the bed mode. Check out our NFL Picks later this week for thoughts on the game.
Otown Raiders-
what's your blog's URL? Maybe I'd like to come pot Oakland's draft results this decade on there for you. I should be worried you guys have another high pick? Who are you takin, another bust from LSU or Texas? Colt McCoy is declaring, I guess...
Wow, what an in-depth response about Pitt's loss. Fags.
Ah, nothing quite like livening up sports talk with anonymous homophobic slurs in the comments. Truly classy.
Class doesn't exist on the internet, Faglon7117
Succinctly put, Bearcat.
